Both Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma were considered to play the female lead in the film. The role, however, eventually went to Deepika Padukone.

Furthermore, Bobby Deol was initially offered to play Taran in the film. However, since he was busy filming Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, the role went to Kunaal Roy Kapur.

While the trip was supposed to take six hours, Ranbir was adamant on finding a restaurant that apparently served the best butter chicken. Owing to this detour, the trip took 14 hours to complete.
