The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the Kochi Municipal Corporation (CEO) to pay a compensation of Rs 100 crore for alleged dereliction of duty. The tribunal noted that according to a media report, the city of Kochi was jammed on March 2, 2023 due to a fire in a garbage dump. Due to which the situation of crisis had arisen. A warning was issued for residents to stay indoors and hospitals were asked to prepare emergency admissions of patients with respiratory distress to deal with the severe air pollution and its worrying public health consequences.
