Russian President Vladimir Putin was afraid of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This is the reason why he interfered in the presidential election in 2016. This claim has been made by US presidential candidate Nancy Pelosi. Nancy made several claims while speaking at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

He said, ‘It was Putin’s fear that he illegally campaigned against Hillary in the 2016 election and created an atmosphere.’ Nancy Pelosi said, ‘Vladimir Putin interfered with our democracy because Hillary Clinton was the person he feared most in terms of the lack of democracy in Russia.’

He said that during the 2016 presidential election, US intelligence agencies had discovered that Vladimir Putin had ordered interference in the election with the aim of harming Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. For this, a massive campaign was launched by Russia. The campaign involved cyberattacks and hacking into Democratic National Committee (DNC) servers to obtain emails and documents. Hillary Clinton previously served as Secretary of State under former President Barack Obama. During her time in the State Department, Hillary Clinton publicly criticized the re-election of Vladimir Putin in 2011.

Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016. He denied any interference in the election from Russia in 2018, saying that he had a lot of confidence in my intelligence, but I will tell you that President Putin was very strong and powerful in his work. He just said that this is not Russia. I will say this – I don’t see any reason why this would happen.
