Sensex and Nifty settled lower in a volatile trade today.
New Delhi:
The Indian equity benchmarks fell on Tuesday, pausing a sharp rise in the previous two sessions as rising crude oil prices dented investor sentiment. Brent crude futures surged 1.44 per cent to $109.10 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures rose 1.51 per cent.
The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 435 points or 0.72 per cent to close at 60,177, while the broader NSE Nifty moved 96 points or 0.53 per cent lower to settle at 17,957. The domestic indices had climbed nearly 3.5 per cent each in the last two sessions.
However, mid- and small-cap shares finished on a strong note as Nifty Midcap 100 index rose 1.38 per cent lower and small-cap gained 0.85 per cent.
