Voting will be held today for the vacant seats in the three-tier panchayat and urban bodies in Chhattisgarh. For this, teams have been dispatched on Sunday. The polling for the panchayat will be held from 7 am to 3 pm. After this the votes will be counted. On the other hand, votes will be cast for the urban body from 8 am to 5 pm. Their counting of votes will be done from 9 am on January 12. Till then the ballot boxes will remain in the respective strong rooms. Voting in both the elections will be done through ballot paper.

Vacant posts of 15 councilors in the body

According to the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, under the municipal by-election 2022-23, voting is to be held in 14 urban bodies of 12 districts of the state. Of these, 38 candidates are in the fray for 15 councilor posts. At the same time, polling will be held on 735 vacant posts including one district panchayat member, 10 district panchayat members, 127 sarpanch and 597 panch in the state. Elections to Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayats will be on party basis. Voting will be done by ballot from the ballot box.

50 nominations were filled for the body, 38 in the field

The filling of nomination papers for the civic elections was started from December 16. Officials of the State Election Commission said that 50 candidates had filed nominations for the municipal by-elections in 14 urban bodies. In the scrutiny of nomination papers, 2 nominations were rejected. 38 candidates are contesting after 10 names were withdrawn till the last date of withdrawal.
